Joan Elizabeth Thomas “JoAnn” was born on June 1, 1941 to the
parents Eadie Pearl Robinson and Joshua Frost in Eufaula,
Alabama.
Joan accepted Christ at an early age. While residing in Chicago,
she attended and was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church. At the
time of death, she was a member of Mt. Level Baptist Church in
Eufaula, AL.
She graduated from T.V. McCoo High School. After graduating,
she moved to Chicago, IL, and was employed at Siegal’s Ware-
house for five years. She later met and married Jefferson Thomas,
and was then employed at Cabrina Hospital for fifteen years before
disability retirement.
Joan was preceded in death by both parents, Eadie Pearl and
Joshua; step father, Monroe Jones; brother, Charles Barksdale;
daughter, Joani Davenport; husband, Jefferson Thomas.
She leaves cherished memories to her sister, Bessie McCoy of
Seale, AL; brother, James Robinson of Columbus, GA; sister-in-
law, Beatrice Barksdale of Eufaula, AL; granddaughter, Siobhan
Davenport of Clayton, AL; nieces, Moneadie “Nita” Bowens of
Bolingbrook, IL, Karen Barksdale of Eufaula, AL, Diane Benton
(Oscar) of Columbus, GA; nephew, Charles Barksdale, Jr of Atlan-
ta, GA; great niece, LeSabre Bowens of Bolingbrook, IL; great
nephew, Lee Bowens III of Springfield, IL; nephew-in-love, Lee
Bowens, Jr of Chicago, IL; a host of cousins, in-laws, and friends
who loved her dearly.
